Many of the province’s finest estancias are near enough to the city to be seen on a day trip; alternatively if you want to escape for a couple of days and sample estancia life, many offer high quality accommodation, horse-riding, polo lessons and a range of other activities. Many tourist agencies arrange a dia del campo (a day in the country) which usually entails an traditional asado (roast) prepared outside on a roasting spit over an open fire. All the estancias mentioned here are within the province of Buenos Aires and no more than three hours drive, although most are just an hour away.
