Boca Juniors Football Club

(Reads: 2631, 10-Oct-2008)

Football is one of the country’s greatest passions next to the Tango. And La Boca is home to one of Argentina’s most famous football teams Boca Juniors for which the legendary Diego Maradona once played. The team's home is the Estadio Alberto J Armando on Avenida Brandsen 805 which is otherwise known as La Bombonera (chocolate box).

If you’re keen to see a match and you're a football fanatic it's reputedly well worthwhile. The stands are very steep and they shake as the fans roar with excitement. It's advisable to get a seat in the platea baja rather than the popular where it can become louder still. Tickets are available for matches from Ticketek, tel: +54 (0) 11 5237 7200. It's worth going with a tour operator who will escort you to and from the match.

Also here is the Museo de la Pasion Boquense. There are daily tours 10am-6pm which take you to the dressing rooms, press room and stands. Tel: +54 (0) 11 4362 1100. Outside the stadium are many small stalls selling Boca souvenirs.
