Tourism Guide / Tierra del Fuego / Ushuaia
Ushuaia(Number of Articles Reads in Ushuaia: 15.242) The world’s most southerly city is situated at the bottom of the world in the most spectacular setting, overlooking the deep greenish blue waters of the Beagle Channel with the ragged snow-capped peaks of Cordillera Darwin forming its backdrop. Ushuaia itself is largely a modern town with a mish-mash of buildings which sprawl up the hillside and along the coast. Just west of the town, 12 km away, is the splendid Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego, where there are a number of treks or journey by catamaran down the Beagle Channel to Estancia Haberton, run by descendants of the Anglican missionary Thomas Bridges. In the winter you can ski at Cerro Castor, not more than 30 km away, but the days are short, 9am to 4pm, while in the summer it gets dark well after midnight.
