Esquina(Number of Articles Reads in Esquina: 1.332) The city of Esquina is situated on the banks of Rio Corriente, close to the confluence with Rio Parana, in the southwest corner of Corrientes province, some 670 km north of Buenos Aires. One claim to fame the city has is that the family of footballer Diego Maradona is originally from Esquina. The natural delta nearby teems with flora and fauna on the numerous islands and wetlands, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts alike. The area also attracts many fly-fishing aficionados who come to tempt the large dorados and numerous other species that inhabit the clear surrounding waters. In March the city hosts the Festival Nacional del Pacu, an incredibly popular angling competition.
Esquina is an attractive city with tree-lined avenues and a mishmash of colonial buildings, particularly in the Spanish and Italian style, constructed by the thousands of immigrants who arrived in the 1800s. The city was supposedly founded in 1806 - although some believe it to be in the late 1700s - only to be destroyed in 1839. However, a few years later Esquina was reconstructed and it thereafter became a flourishing port. The city enjoys a temperate sub-tropical climate. It rains in March, April and October. During February it’s carnival time. DestinationsArticles in EsquinaThe 25th Fiesta Nacional del Pacú, which takes place annually at the beginning of March and attracts thousands of ...
