The Mar del Plata International Film Festival, which takes place annually, is a cultural bonanza attended by film makers, actors, producers, investors, scriptwriters, journalists and others involved in the film industry particularly, of course, from the Argentine. Since the festival first started in 1954, it has been patronised by celebrities from around the world, among them Paul Newman, Tom Courtney, Maria Callas, Anthony Perkins, Susan Sarandon, Juliette Binoche, Tim Robbins, Alan Rickman and Helen Mirren.
