Glaciarium: the Museo de Hielo Patagonico(Reads: 756, since 06-May-2011)The Glaciarium: Museo de Hielo Patagonico opened early in 2011 just outside the town of El Calafate in a spectacular setting, just off the Ruta 11 on the shores of Lago Argentino. It’s not only the first glacial museum in Argentina but it is one of just a few in the world. And it’s ultra modern exterior has been designed in glacial form, the front was inspired by the nearby Perito Moreno glacier. This interpretation centre explains everything about glaciers, their environments and their importance in the world. Earlier the same year a law was passed in order to protect Argentina’s glaciers from future mining explorations. The museum also has a exhibition about climate change and there’s even a Glacio Bar in the basement. Open daily 9am-8pm. For further details see www.glaciarium.com.
