There a handful of companies which offer whale-watching trips from Puerto Piramides into the Golfo Nuevo where the Southern Right Whale spends several months each year. Some companies use Zodiacs, from where you will definitely get closer to the whales, but from larger launches you will be higher up, allowing you to see exactly how enormous these magnificent creatures are. Some companies also have speed boats. Nearly all the boats seem to appear packed on departure so it’s important to arrive on time in order to get an optimum position. There are several tour agencies in Puerto Madryn, the nearest town, which organise trips to the peninsula that can also include whale-watching trips.
