Aerolineas Argentinas operates several flights weekly to the town of Trelew, the nearest airport to which Aerolineas flies. Alternatively, there is a small airport in Puerto Madryn to which LADE flies from Buenos Aires once or twice weekly. Lineas Aereas del Estado (LADE), Peru 714. Tel: +54 (0) 11 5129 9001.

Regular shuttle buses run between Trelew and Puerto Madryn, 65 km to the north. It’s possible to stay in Puerto Madryn and take a day trip to the peninsula, which is what lots of people do, but it warrants more than a day, which is why it’s preferable to stay in the small village of Puerto Piramides on the peninsula itself.

By Bus
Several long-distance bus companies operate between Buenos Aires and the southern Patagonian cities such as Don Otto and Andesmar. But there are many more bus companies which operate from other cities within Argentina. Their names and websites are listed at Bus America. Mar y Valle has regular connections from Puerto Madryn to Puerto Piramides.

By Car
It is some 1,300 km from Buenos Aires to Puerto Madryn, a 16 to17 hour drive. The most direct route is by following Ruta 205 turns, which turns into Ruta 65 after San Carlos de Bolivar and onto Ruta 33 to Bahia Blanca. From here follow the Ruta 3 along the Atlantic coast all the way south to Peninsula Valdes.

The best way to see the Peninsula is undoubtedly by car. There are various car rental companies in Puerto Madryn. Most likely, you will cover over 400 km at least. If you plan to do the whole of the peninsula don’t forget to fuel up in Puerto Piramides as it’s is the only place with a service station on the peninsula.
