Something you wish to say about this page? Trevelin(Number of Articles Reads in Trevelin: 0) Some 25 km southwest of Esquel is the pretty little town of Trevelin. It was settled by Welsh immigrants, who arrived from Gaiman on the Atlantic coast, in search of more agricultural land only to discover a fertile valley and the craggy peaks of Parque Nacional Los Alerces nearby. Trevelin is Welsh for “town of the mill” and the Museo Regional Molino Andes, once a working flour mill, recounts the story of its founders. There are a couple of tea shops which serve up Welsh fare, as well as a lovely little chapel, the Capilla Bethel, while in October Trevelin hosts a mini Eisteddfod.
Also the home of John Evans, one of Trevelin’s first settlers, is now the Museo Cartref’Taid. Evans narrowly escaped a savage attack by the indigenous people, who had been attacked themselves by Argentine soldiers in the Campaign for the Desert. It was Evan’s horse, Malacara, which reputedly jumped a ravine to save his master. Malacara died some years later and was subsequently buried in a private garden.
