The Esquel Meteorite

The Patagonian town of Esquel in the province of Chubut is well known among scientists due to a huge meteorite which was uncovered by a farmer in 1951. It was later aptly named Esquel. This single mass, which weighed some 1,500 kilograms, was calculated to be four billion years old, making it one of the oldest meteorites ever found. It turned out to be a highly stable stoney-iron pallasite which, when cut, showed portions of glimmering olivine yellow crystals. It is still possible to buy a piece of this very meteorite and several meteorite traders have different pieces of varying sizes for sale on the following websites:
