The Parque Nacional San Guillermo

(Reads: 580, since 06-May-2011)

The Parque Nacional San Guillermo just west of the Valle del Rio Blanco in the province of San Juan boasts beautiful snow-capped peaks, thermal waters, pristine lakes and crystalline rivers at the foot of the Cordillera de los Andes. And needless to say it is home to a variety of fauna which includes vicunas and guanacos, foxes, nandus, condors, eagles, flamingos, lizards and a plethora of waterfowl as well as the puma. It's not often possible to observe these shy felines but apparently here the pumas are less intimidated by humans and often their curiosity gets the better of them and they approach vehicles. In order to visit the park you will need to obtain a permit from the park administration, in this case in the small town of Rodeo, and you’ll need a four-wheel drive vehicle and possibly even a guide.
