Something you wish to say about this page? What to See in Tandil(Reads: 329, since 01-Abr-2011)On the Plaza de la Independencia stands the lovely Iglesia del Santisimo Sacramento which follows the lines of the Sacre Coeur in Paris. The church also houses a small religious museum, the Museo de Arte Religioso. Also on the plaza is one of the town’s oldest buildings, now the Epoca de Quesos, a fabulous delicatessen and bar, where you’ll find all sorts of lovely treats, such as stout, jams and all sorts of cheeses. Just behind the delicatessen you can take a stroll through a tiny little house lost in time. Just north of town on 4 de Abril is the Museo Tradicionalista Fuerte Independencia which was established by a group of residents back in the 1950s to encourage the Argentine tradition, now full of curious collections of artefacts mostly donated by Tandilenses. It’s open Tues-Sun 2pm-6pm. Tandil once boasted the Piedra Movediza, an enormous rock which had been perched precariously on a rocky outcrop for years before it finally crashed to the ground in 1912. A few years ago it was replaced by a replica Piedra Magica at the top of the same hill in the Parque Litico La Movediza. South of town is the Parque Independencia. Outside of town are the sierras, the most popular being Cerro Centinela at the top of which stands another unusual rock formation which stands vertically. There’s also a range of other activities on offer, such as horse-riding, trekking and golf and there’s a chairlift which runs to the top of another sierra from where there a great views. South of town is the Reserva Natural Sierra del Tigre, open daily 10am-6pm, where native species of deer and camelids can be observed. It also has a small zoo.
