Argentine Patagonia offers some of the best fly fishing opportunities in the world and each year there seems to be more fishing lodges, many offering the very best accommodation, with fine food and wines and experienced knowledgeable guides. And several of the following lodges have private access to long stretches of river and many others are within, or close to, some of Argentina’s most beautiful national parks, and all are surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Estancia San Huberto offers private access to stretches of the Rio Malleo, Laguna Huaca Mamuil and Lago Tromen just under an hour from San Martin de los Andes.
Tipiliuke Lodge on Estancia Cerro de los Pinos has private access to stretches of the ríos Chimehuin and Quilquihue and is less tan 15 minutes from Chapelco airport north of San Martin de los Andes.
Estancia Arroyo Verde has private access to the stretches of the Rio Traful where land locked Atlantic salmon can be hooked. The Traful is an exclusively catch and release fly-fishing river. At the beginning of the season the river runs high and fast with the level dropping in December but usually with fast water till the beginning or middle of January.
Collon Cura Lodge with private access to parts of one of the biggest rivers in the area, the Rio Collon Cura. The lodge is just over an hour from San Martin. The Collon Cura is fed by rios Malleo, Alumine and Chimehuin. Some say that the fish on the Collon Cura are among some of the feistiest in Patagonia.
