An increasingly popular holiday destination among wealthy Argentines, the pretty sprawling resort town of Villa La Angostura lies on the northern shores of Lago Nahuel Huapi. It has many stylish restaurants, where you can sample delicious roast lamb and a typical bife de chorizo, and a range of accommodation from the luxurious to the more practical cabanas and affordable hostels. Along the town's short main street are also a number of quirky craft shops and a few rather tempting chocolate outlets. Nearby at the end of the Quetrihue Peninsula is the Parque Nacional Los Arrayanes and its forest of arrayanes, with their twisting trunks and burnt-orange powder-like peeling bark. Also closeby is the small ski resort of Cerro Bayo and the small resort peninsula of Puerto Manzano.
