Crossing to Chile from Villa La Angostura is relatively painless. It's around 45 kilometres from the town to the Argentine passport control and customs and another 40 kilometres beyond to the Chilean equivalent. The pass which is paved is maintained open year round and takes you through some beautiful native forest and into Chile arriving to Lago Puyehue and beyond to Osorno. Buses leave from the bus station just behind the tourist office. The journey depending on when you travel - holidays can be extremely busy and quite slow particularly on the Chilean side - to Osorno can take up to three hours.
