Surrounded by beautiful mountains and pristine lakes, the pretty Patagonian town of San Martin de los Andes nestles on the eastern shores of Lago Lacar and is the perfect base for exploring Parque Nacional Lanin and Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi. It is also less than half-an-hour from the ski resort of Chapelco. The town has plenty of accommodation, lots of lovely little cafes and a multitude of restaurants. From the nearby pier, boats operate trips to Hua-Hum and Quila Quina, with its small Mapuche community.
