At San Juan 350 on the corner with Defensa is the Museo de Arte Moderno (MAMBA). This former tabacco factory houses primarily contemporary art from the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Open Tues-Fri 10am-8pm, Sat 11am-8pm. Free on Wednesdays. Tel: +54 (0) 11 4361 1121. The museum is currently undergoing refurbishment. Next door on Defensa 1220 is the Museo del Cine, also undergoing refurbishment, which has exhibitions on Argentine film.
At Lima 1037 between Humberto 1 and Carlos Calvo is the Museo de la Caricatura ‘Severo Vaccaro’ set up by Vicente Vaccaro in honour of his brother Severo who had amassed a collection of satirical art which includes an array of famous personalities. Tel: +54 (0) 11 4304 6497 or visit Severo Vaccaro. On Chile 832 is the small Museo del Traje which depicts the history of Buenos Aires fashion. Tel: +54 (0) 11 4343 8427. Open Tues-Fri, Sun 3pm-7pm.
In the Parque Lezama is Museo Historico Nacional entered on Defensa 1600. It was once the glorious residence of Gregorio Lezama. It's a classic Italian mansion and houses many paintings and portraits of important historical figures such as Christopher Columbus and Jose de San Martin as well as furniture, clothes and artifacts.
