In late February early March every year Mendoza hosts it biggest and most extravagant party, the Fiesta de la Vendimia (Wine Harvest Festival). On the last Sunday in February the bishop of Mendoza blesses the grapes in the Bendicion de los Frutos (Blessing of the Grapes). Before the grand finale which normally takes place on the first weekend in March, there is a variety of events from concerts to street parades.

On the Friday evening decorative and colourful floats pass through the city centre and on Saturday a carnival parade follows the same route. Each provincial district of Mendoza elects a beauty queen and from them, the queen of the festival is chosen. Voting takes place on Saturday evening during the Acto Central in the football stadium in the Parque General San Martin. Singers and dancers together with many television personalities provide the entertainment while waiting for the result. On Sunday evening the party continues.
