The Esteros del Ibera are made up of crystal clear rivers, lakes, streams and shallows, which are home to vast quantities of wildlife and fishlife, including the famous freshwater golden salmon, the Dorado (Salminus maxillosus and S. hilarii). The Dorado is a feisty, acrobatic fighter which typically weighs around three to five kilos, but which can weigh up to 15 kilos or more. Pirá Lodge, which is situated in the heart of the Esteros del Ibera, has direct access to the Rio Corrientes and the network of channels, streams, shallows and lakes which make up the marshlands.
