Something you wish to say about this page? Essential Phrases(Reads: 1544, since 13-Ago-2009)If you plan on travelling to Argentina, it is very handy to have a few words of Spanish. Argentines speak Castillean Spanish or Castellano from the Castillean region of Spain. Almost all the words and vocabulary are the same, but Argentines pronounce some syllables differently and have a few different expressions. Generally, the people enunciate well and it’s relatively easy to understand them, except when they fall into the lunfardo form, an Italian-based slang spoken mainly in Buenos Aires. If you can communicate even a little then you are likely to enjoy Argentina and its culture more. Argentines are proud of their Spanish and will more than likely correct you if you pronounce it wrong. The main difference with other Latin American Spanish is the use of vos instead of tu, so instead saying tu trabajas (you eat), the Argentines would say (vos trabajas). Another significant difference is their pronunciation of “ll” which they pronounce like a ‘sh’ instead of a ‘y’. For example, the word villa – vi-ya – would be pronounced vi-sha.
