Something you wish to say about this page? Argentine Newspapers and Magazines(Reads: 1821, since 27-Ago-2008)Argentina is the most literate nation in South America and this is plainly evident given the number of newspaper, magazines and books on sale throughout the country. However, some media is still somewhat influenced by government, although more stories of corruption, which appears inherent, have been published in recent years than ever before. There are a number of reputable daily newspapers and daily regional newspapers. Foreign newspapers are available in Buenos Aires but generally not in the rest of the country. National Newspapers Clarin is a lively, readable broadsheet, assuming you have some Spanish, which tends to toe the government line somewhat yet has one of the highest circulations. Clarin’s Espectaculos section lists what’s going on. La Nacion is a substantial well written broadsheet founded in 1870. It has a fairly affluent readership and is one of Argentina’s most reliable media sources. Pagina/12 leans to the left it is sometimes regarded as a government mouthpiece. Its particularly fond of hounding former junta members responsible for crimes against humanity. The English-language Buenos Aires Herald was founded in 1876 to keep the large circle of ex-pats informed. It still continues to be published albeit with a much reduced circulation. It’s a good source of listings and syndicates articles from British and US newspapers. It’s available in most large cities. Other dailys include La Prensa and La Razon is distributed free at Subte stations and toll booths. Regional Press Some of the local dailies are on a par with the national press, particularly La Voz del Interior Cordoba’s daily paper and Los Andes published daily in Mendoza. Such local papers are also good sources of what’s happening about town. Magazines Gente, Noticias and Caras are all popular reads. Lugares is a glossy monthly travel magazine all about places to go in Argentina. For a complete list of magazines published in Argentina go to All You Can Read.
